There was smoke everywhere.
It filled up the art room in Jade Mountain, and students coughed, sneezed and staggered backwards, bumping into one another. It was very hard for Peril to stay out of the way of scurrying students. especially when she was the one who made the room start smoking. For Peril, it was easy to start a fire. It only took a small sweep of a tail and WHOOSH! The room would be set on fire. "WATCH OUT!" Peril yelled as a sandwing almost fell onto her wing, "Don't you know who I am?" Everyone at Jade Mountain Academy knew that Peril was Queen Scarlet's killer creature. So, it was a silly Question to ask, even Peril knew that. "ARGHH! Forget it." Peril muttered, waving her talons in the air, trying to clear the smoke from her view. "Wait! No! Don't forget it! No! Ack!" Peril collided with a mudwing, taller than she was. "Hey, um, Peril?" Suddenly Peril's brain started working, she knew this particular dragon. "Clay!" Peril cried, a large toothy grin emerging from the depths of her face, "I'm so sorry about the smoke! It was a TOTAL accident!" Clay looked at her, a little worried, but recovered when Peril said, " I didn't mean to! I just did. Sorry!" Clay grinned, " I know you didn't mean to. I bet it's hard trying to console your fire scales."
A loud thudding noise echoed through the hall. " OK! WHO DID IT?!" An adult female voice broke in, "COME ON! SHOW YOURSELF! Why does this always happen?" It was clear that the angry voice belonged to nobody but Tsunami, the most bad tempered seawing Peril had ever met. Well, according to Peril she was. Another voice cut in, this time a bit squeaky. Ok, way too squeaky for Peril. "Oh dear! I think we might have to include a smoke alarm in here! Actually, I think we should have smoke alarms in all the rooms in the school. Just to be safe. Oh! And fire alarms!" As Sunny said this she looked at Peril. Only a little bit though. Sunny was the only teacher at the jade mountain academy that was actually nice to Peril. Apart from Clay. Clay! But sometimes Peril just wanted to shove Sunny off a cliff. Or something similar. For some reason It just felt right.
"Where's Starflight?" Clay asked, "Is he in the library?" Tsunami sighed dramatically, "Where else would he be, you handsome idiot?" Tsunami said cooly, catching Peril's eye. "Actually, I'm over here. I was in the library, It's just that I couldn't stand the noise. You know? The screaming and all that?" Starflight said, looking at Tsunami, Clay, Sunny and Peril. "Um, you tell him." Tsunami, whispered to Clay, " I hardly even know what happened." Clay looked at Peril, as if she could save him from the situation. "Um. Yes. It was me, but it was an accident. And... um... accidents happen?" Peril looked hopeful and there at that moment the muscles in her mouth broke down. Completely. Peril wrinkled her snout. "I'm sorry." She managed to say, "I just got a fright when the paint fell onto the canvas. Or let's say, EXPLODED." Peril tried to smile innocently. But it didn't work.
"DO YOU KNOW HOW EXPENSIVE THESE ARE?!" Tsunami thundered, "I SPENT A FORTUNE ON EACH OF THOSE!" Clay came to Peril's rescue. At the wrong moment. But thanks anyway Clay! "It's not Peril's fault guys." Clay argued, " And I don't think you should threaten Peril like that Tsunami." " Hey! But - I - " Tsunami stuttered, " I did pay a fortune for those!" Take that Tsunami! Peril thought. " Hey! You guys!" Sunny cried, forcing the Mudwing and Seawing apart. " It's not fair for either of you! Now hug!" She ordered. Orghh! Gross! Peril thought disgusted, It's only good if it's just me and Clay! Tsunami was the first one to pull away from the hug. Clay nodded. " I need to talk to Peril." He said. " Alone." Oooh! What now Clay? Clay gestured for Peril to follow him and they both walked down the hall.
"Peril, this is important." Clay said, looking sideways at her. "I, um. I'm going to the sky palace. To collect some more students. And... " Clay was starting to mumble now. " And? " Peril asked, "And I, um, was wondering if you would like to come with me? That is if you would like to." He asked shyly. "Of course!" Peril sang, hugging him. "Whoops! Did I burn you? Sorry! But yes! I want to come! Am I being annoying?" Peril asked, eyes glittering in the sunlight. "Yay! I knew you'd say yes!" Clay whooped, " Come on!" He leapt of the ledge of the mountain and hovered in the sky, before motioning Peril to follow him. Soon two silhouettes flew against the setting sun.
